We met up with Nick's family friend Shirley to explore the spice market and the Madinat Jumeirah Mall.
We met Shirley at our hotel and drove to the water taxis to explore the spice markets. We walked past a government building and through alleyways to get to the small boats. Along the way, merchants would grab you and try to wrap you with scarfs so that you would buy from them.
We then took the water boat across the canal to the spice market. The larger blue ships are cargo ships from neighboring countries.
The spice market was filled with little shops. Each shop had many bags of spices (see first picture above) and little trinkets. Again, people would grab you and try to sell you different items. Nick couldn't give up the chance to successfully barter with the locals.
Because it was 118 F degrees with 60% humidity, we soon headed for the car. We drove along the beach road to Madinat Jumeirah. Here, we saw much nicer local shops (compare photo below with photo above) and enjoyed great views. You could easily see the famous Burj Al Arab from outside the mall.
Thank you again for your hospitality, Shirley!
